Introducing the 2011 Denver Designer Show House…
1625 East 3rd Avenue
Country Club Historic Neighborhood
We are pleased to introduce The Cowperthwaite Estate as the 2011 Denver Designer Show House to benefit The Children’s Hospital.
This is our second year to present the community with a grand, historic home tour in Country Club to benefit our wonderful Children’s Hospital here in Denver. The Hospital, founded in 1908, is dedicated to the belief that all children should have the opportunity for a bright and healthy future. Consistently ranked one of the best children’s hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report, Children’s combines world-class pediatric medicine with a uniquely family-friendly environment. Doctors here are pioneering new ways to cure childhood diseases so our children will receive the most effective care years before it may become available elsewhere. Children’s sees more, treats more and heals more kids than any hospital in our seven state region.
We are pleased to showcase the talents of 28 interior designers from Denver, Vail and Aspen this year. Designer Laura Abrahmson from Camellia Designs said it best when describing why she is involved with the project, “... it will be sheer fun to imagine a space as it once was and create something fresh that reflects the beauty of what is offered in our world today". Bobby McAlpine
We are thrilled that Bobby McAlpine is Honorary Chair of the Designer Show house. Born in the Alabama sawmill town of Vredenburgh, Bobby designed his first house at the age of five and hasn’t stopped since. Architect, romantic, poet, and entrepreneur, he has gathered an eclectic family of professionals for his interior design firm, furniture lines and world-renowned widely-published architecture firm now in its 27th year. Bobby holds both architecture and interior design degrees although he continues his lifetime of learning in the world’s classroom. He is the author of the critically acclaimed and best-selling book from Rizzoli International, The Home Within Us, which went into a second printing after only 16 days on the shelves. Please click here for details about Bobby’s lecture on April 14 at The Show House.
1625 was the first home built on Gilpin Street in Country Club over a century ago. Designed by Arthur Fisher of famed Fisher and Fisher Architects, this beautiful 1909 Tudor has been owned solely by the Cowperthwaite family since its original construction. The past century has seen an address change from its original 305 Gilpin Street, a sunroom and servant quarters’ addition and a handful of tasteful renovations. It remains in near-vintage condition and wonderfully, none of the remodels has significantly altered its character.
Blanche Cowperthwaite, the late matriarch of the family, had a special relationship with Denver and the Children’s Hospital. She raised five children, sold real estate, was a member of the Colorado State House of Representatives, Chair of the Colorado Commission on the Status of Women and a member of the Board of The Children’s Hospital. Her mother, Gertrude Taussig who built 1625 East 3rd, was also an active member of Board of The Children’s Hospital. The home is a lovely landmark to a Denver family that has contributed significantly to the strength and history of Denver.
1625 East 3rd Avenue will be offered for sale for the first time in its history in April 2011.
